Preparing Your Christmas Tree

Written by Heather Sheehy Saturday, 26 November 2016

The holiday season is now in full swing and with that comes the tradition of cutting a tree for holiday display. Here are some helpful hints to keep your tree soft and safe this season.

* Place your tree in a stand with a reservoir for water. Make a fresh cut to remove a half-inch thick disk of wood from the base o the trunk before putting the tree into the tans. When purchasing a stand remember that you stand should provide 1 inch quart of water per inch of stem diameter

* Make sure your stand fits your tree property. The outer layer of the bark is the most effective for absorbing water and distributing it to the tree.

* It is important to place your tree in water as soon as possible. After cutting the trunk most species can still take up water for up to four or six hours.

* The water reservoir should be checked and filled daily if needed.

* Christmas lights can cause the tree to dry out, so it is best to use ones that produce low heat.

* Any damaged or frayed light strings should be replaced and not used on a live tree.

* Check the tree daily for freshness. If the tree seems dry it should be remove from the home.

Looking at Floor Plans:Master Suite

Written by Robert Dunn Friday, 29 January 2016

The first room I'm going to look at is the master suite. For some perhaps just another bedroom, but for others a private retreat from the rest of the house (and the kids?) A master suite includes a typically larger bedroom, adjoining bathroom and at least one closet. That gives us lots of opportunities for options so lets get started.

Looking at Floor Plans

Written by Robert Dunn Wednesday, 20 January 2016

One of the first and probably most important decisions you will make when buying a new home is the floor plan.  If you are building in an established subdivided neighborhood, the builder likely has a set of plans to choose from.  These choices may even be limited to a few specifically selected for that neighborhood.  When building on your own lot with a custom builder you will often have much greater flexibility and that is when the posibilities can be overwhelming.  Over the next couple weeks I want to give a brief overview to outline some of the options that are available.  I'm going to start with the plan as a whole and then later I'll go room by room and talk about some more specific options
